NGW Nut Gun Welding

The OCON servo gun is designed for the welding of nuts, studs and screws on a moving robot. It has been developed for the automotive mass production.

This innovative design allows the robot free movements in the space without any collision with the charging tubes.

Advantages

  • Flexible process: weld in any orientation, no restrictions (no elements lost system)

  • Possibility to integrate the welding process into a turn-table (manufacturing process simplification)

  • Weld cycle-time noticeably reduced (weld process in 1,5 seconds)

  • Fasteners buffer on-board (refill using docking station in 1,5 seconds)

  • Welding process on large-size and/or heavy parts much easier (easier access also to deep drawn parts)

Components

Weldtimer

Resistance welding equipment based on medium-frequency inverter technology (MFDC). Additionally for this application, the control of the servomotors is integrated in the welding cabinet. The movement of the servomotors is constantly monitored and adjusted during the weld-time to achieve the best welding quality.

Docking Station (DKS)

The loading point whose task is to supply nuts to the magazine on-board of the Weldgun. As soon as the control software detects that the magazine is empty, the robot will move to the DKS to complete a reload.

Weldgun

Servo-electrical C-type gun specially adapted for nut welding applications. Apart of the typical components of a resistance spot-weld gun, three other parts are added: a magazine (which stores on-board a predefined number of nuts), a shooting unit (which receives the nut from the magazine and pushes it into the weld-head) and a welding head (which holds the nut in the right position until it is welded). The Weldgun is intended to be mounted on industrial standard robots.

Nuts Feeder

Vibrating equipment whose function is to select and orient the nuts properly, and lastly send them through a plastic hose to the Docking Station. The feeder will send nuts at a frequency of 30 parts/min until the Docking Station is fully loaded.
